Morning. Been a bit crap updating my blog of late, busy, busy, busy with other things. So a few weeks ago I got to feel 16 again (in a manner of speaking) by photographing my then favourite band, HIM. It’s been almost a decade since I was that spotty, spike clad, moody, wanky little so and so but I was nevertheless excited to photograph a band I was once so obsessed with.
One things clear is that regardless of what you think of their music they really cut it live, more so that when I was younger, possibly down to kicking some of the substances that weren’t perhaps conducive to a healthy set of vocal chords. These guys still top charts on the continent and that professionalism showed through in droves.
The whole thing reminded my of how good the lighting can be in the LCR as opposed to The Waterfront, which is still, more often than not, a fucking nightmare. I enjoyed the show to be honest though it made me feel pretty old and the demographic this band appeals to has, lets say, changed significantly over the years.
This was probably my favourite show of the night, capturing that iconic Ville Valo roar at the end of “Buried Alive By Love”.
